Air Purifiers for Offices: HEPA and Carbon Units for Occupied Workspaces
Building HVAC is designed for temperature first and filtration second. A room-level purifier adds particle and gas-phase filtration where the building system does not reach. It is not a substitute for ventilation, though: filtration supplies no outdoor air and does nothing about CO2, so a room that feels stuffy from crowding needs air changes rather than a filter. This collection holds HEPA and activated-carbon units from Airgle, AllerAir, Air-Care and Brio, sized for private offices, open plans, conference rooms and reception areas. None of them are ozone generators.
Sizing by Airflow and Air Changes per Hour
Coverage claims in square feet assume a ceiling height and an air-change target you may not share, so work from airflow. Air changes per hour is airflow multiplied by 60, divided by room volume in cubic feet. Where a clean-air delivery rate is published, use that rather than fan airflow, because fan CFM tells you nothing about what the filter actually removes. The Airgle AG900 moves 400 CFM and is rated for 1,234 sq ft; the AG600 moves 200 CFM at 592 sq ft, and the compact AG300 moves 100 CFM at 288 sq ft. The Air-Care Triton 440 runs 440 CFM through an H13 HEPA filter. Run the arithmetic against the real room, because a purifier rated for a large open plan may deliver only one or two air changes per hour in it.
Carbon Weight and Office Odors
HEPA captures particles. It does not address the gas-phase contaminants that make an office smell like an office: printer emissions, cleaning products, adhesives, and off-gassing from new carpet and furniture. Activated carbon adsorbs many of those, though how well depends on the specific compound and the carbon blend. Carbon quantity is the main lever on service life, alongside contaminant concentration, airflow and humidity. The AllerAir AirMedic Pro 6 line is built around that: the AirMedic Pro 6 HD carries 27 lb of carbon at 560 CFM, the Pro 6 Ultra steps up to 32 lb, and the Salon Pro 6 Ultra to 38 to 40 lb for spaces with a heavy chemical load. A thin carbon pad in a consumer unit is not comparable.
Why This Collection Excludes Ozone Generators
Ozone generators are marketed as air cleaners. The EPA's position is that "at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone is generally ineffective in controlling indoor air pollution" (Ozone Generators that are Sold as Air Cleaners), and ozone is a lung irritant. That rules them out for a room people sit in all day, so they are not in this collection. The Air-Care Triton 440 states ozone-free operation explicitly. Where ozone output is part of your specification, ask for the manufacturer's figure rather than inferring it from the filter type.

Brio Air Filtration = Game Changer
Located in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, we acquired our Brio Air Filter in mid-late Spring of this year (2023) when pollen count was high and we were beginning to experience the effects of Poor Air Quality Index as a result of smoke particulates from fires in Canada that caused the air in much of Minnesota to become hazy and simply dirty.
It is so easy to share our experience with the Brio Air Filter given how quickly and efficiently it removed pollen, dust, and smoke particles from the environment inside our home. Two people in our home who suffer from pollen-related allergies during the spring immediately experienced easier breathing and elimination of symptoms within the house. With respect to smoke particulates from Canada drifting into our environment, EVERYONE in our home experienced directly improved breathing and smell of the air when entering from outside.
An additional piece of information to account for is that we have always employed high grade furnace filters in our home’s central HVAC system. With that high grade filtration in place both prior to and after acquiring a Brio home air filter, we all quickly agreed that deploying the Brio in our home made an easily noticeable positive difference in breathing inside our home. Additionally, those of us who clean our home have observed that dust builds up slower on our floors and furniture than before we deployed the Brio unit.
We did note that the Brio is not as quiet as a few other brands/models on the market that we have tried in our home but the efficiency and quality of the filtration, along with the air turnover rate it provides,allows us to locate the Brio unit in central rooms away from the bedrooms. Since we made that change there has been no noise-related effect on our sleep, while the unit maintains the same level of air cleanliness throughout our home.
A last key point to make is how easy the Brio unit is to maintain. The simplicity of the modular construction of the Brio unit makes it very quick and easy to keep the filtration sections clean. We have not yet reached a point of filter replacement but it is obvious to us that the replacement will take a matter of seconds and can be executed by anyone in our home, including our 10-year-old son.
