AirMedic Pro 6 HD — Maximum Carbon Capacity for Severe Chemical Environments
When the standard Pro 6's 17 lbs of carbon isn't enough, the HD adds a full 3.5"-deep carbon bed (26–29 lbs, 3,500 acres of surface area) and upgrades HEPA to Super HEPA at 99.99% efficiency at 0.1 microns. That's 50% more carbon capacity and particle capture 3x finer than standard HEPA — for environments where chemical removal is mission-critical rather than incidental. Same 560 CFM motor, same 57-lb footprint, significantly more filtration depth.
AirMedic Pro 6 HD Carbon and Super HEPA Performance
The HD designation exists for one reason: more carbon, deeper bed, longer contact time with contaminated air. The 3,500-acre carbon surface area means each pass through the filter has more opportunity to adsorb chemical molecules before air exits the unit.
26–29 lbs activated carbon (3.5" bed) — Exec blend: 26–27 lbs; Vocarb blend: 28–29 lbs; 50% more capacity than the standard Pro 6's 2.5" bed
3,500 acres carbon surface area — maximum adsorption capacity for formaldehyde, benzene, toluene, ammonia, and persistent VOCs
Super HEPA at 99.99% efficiency — captures ultrafine particles at 0.1 microns that standard HEPA (0.3 microns) misses, including ultra-fine combustion particles and some viruses
560 CFM variable speed motor — 39 dB at low speed; suitable for continuous operation in occupied residential and clinical spaces
40+ carbon blend options — same customization as the Pro 6; specify Vocarb for industrial chemical or solvent environments
Optional UV germicidal module — add pathogen control for healthcare and remediation environments
AirMedic Pro 6 HD Applications and Environments
Industrial environments with active chemical exposure — manufacturing facilities using solvents, printing operations, laboratories with reagent off-gassing — are the primary use case for the HD. Medical facilities where anesthetic gases, sterilant fumes, and disinfectant VOCs require aggressive continuous filtration benefit from the deeper carbon bed's higher adsorption capacity. MCS individuals with severe sensitivities who found the standard Pro 6 insufficient between filter changes typically step up to the HD for longer service intervals and better performance at the same airflow. New construction off-gassing applications where multiple materials are releasing simultaneously benefit from the larger chemical load capacity.
AirMedic Pro 6 HD CADR Rating and Filter Stack
The HD uses the same three-stage filtration architecture as the standard Pro 6 — carbon pre-filter, main carbon bed, Super HEPA — but with a deeper main bed and higher-grade HEPA media. CSA/UL certified for occupied spaces. Available in Black, Sandstone, and White. If your space is under 600 sq ft and chemical loads are moderate, the standard Pro 6 at 17 lbs may meet your needs at lower filter replacement cost; the HD is for environments where you are running the unit continuously under high chemical load.

AllerAir AirMedic Pro 6 HD Air Purifier – 27 lb Carbon, S...
How much more carbon does the Pro 6 HD have compared to the standard Pro 6?
The HD contains 26–29 lbs of carbon in a 3.5"-deep bed versus 17–18 lbs in a 2.5" bed for the standard Pro 6. That is roughly 50–60% more carbon by weight, which provides both greater chemical capacity per service interval and more complete removal of lower-concentration contaminants.
What is Super HEPA and how does it differ from standard HEPA?
Super HEPA captures 99.99% of particles at 0.1 microns — three times finer than the 0.3-micron standard for medical-grade HEPA (99.97%). The smaller capture threshold is relevant for ultra-fine combustion particles, some virus particles, and nanoparticulate industrial emissions.
What is the carbon surface area of the Pro 6 HD?
The Pro 6 HD carbon bed has 3,500 acres of surface area — this is the actual adsorptive area available for chemical molecules to bind to. More surface area means more capacity before the carbon becomes saturated and needs replacement.
Does the Pro 6 HD use the same motor and airflow as the standard Pro 6?
Yes. Both models use the same 560 CFM variable-speed motor with the same noise range (39–60 dB). The difference is entirely in the filter stack — deeper carbon bed and higher-grade HEPA in the HD.
How do I choose between the Exec and Vocarb carbon blends for the HD?
Exec (26–27 lbs) is the standard general-purpose formulation covering common VOCs, formaldehyde, and odors. Vocarb (28–29 lbs) is AllerAir's industrial blend, heavier by 2 lbs and optimized for smaller-molecule chemicals including chlorine-based compounds, solvents, and industrial gases. Specify at time of order.
Is the Pro 6 HD safe for continuous operation in occupied clinical or residential spaces?
Yes. The Pro 6 HD is CSA/UL safety certified and OSHA-compliant for occupied spaces. At low speed (39 dB), it is suitable for continuous operation in bedrooms, treatment rooms, and offices without creating noise or safety concerns.
Can I add UV germicidal capability to the Pro 6 HD?
Yes. An optional UV germicidal module is available as an add-on — it targets mold spores, bacteria, and viruses using UV-C light within the filter chamber. The module is added without replacing the base unit and can be ordered at the same time as the purifier.

Located in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, we acquired our Brio Air Filter in mid-late Spring of this year (2023) when pollen count was high and we were beginning to experience the effects of Poor Air Quality Index as a result of smoke particulates from fires in Canada that caused the air in much of Minnesota to become hazy and simply dirty.
It is so easy to share our experience with the Brio Air Filter given how quickly and efficiently it removed pollen, dust, and smoke particles from the environment inside our home. Two people in our home who suffer from pollen-related allergies during the spring immediately experienced easier breathing and elimination of symptoms within the house. With respect to smoke particulates from Canada drifting into our environment, EVERYONE in our home experienced directly improved breathing and smell of the air when entering from outside.
An additional piece of information to account for is that we have always employed high grade furnace filters in our home’s central HVAC system. With that high grade filtration in place both prior to and after acquiring a Brio home air filter, we all quickly agreed that deploying the Brio in our home made an easily noticeable positive difference in breathing inside our home. Additionally, those of us who clean our home have observed that dust builds up slower on our floors and furniture than before we deployed the Brio unit.
We did note that the Brio is not as quiet as a few other brands/models on the market that we have tried in our home but the efficiency and quality of the filtration, along with the air turnover rate it provides, allows us to locate the Brio unit in central rooms away from the bedrooms. Since we made that change there has been no noise-related effect on our sleep, while the unit maintains the same level of air cleanliness throughout our home.
A last key point to make is how easy the Brio unit is to maintain. The simplicity of the modular construction of the Brio unit makes it very quick and easy to keep the filtration sections clean. We have not yet reached a point of filter replacement but it is obvious to us that the replacement will take a matter of seconds and can be executed by anyone in our home, including our 10-year-old son.
It seems to help reduce my allergy issues. We're glad we bought it. The only problem I had was not seeing any cubic footage recommendations in the online description when purchasing the unit. Bedrooms vary widely in size!!
