Like the L-19E and L-20E, the L-21E positions its gearbox under the apron rather than in the handle column, which reduces noise transmission through the machine frame. At 21", it offers the widest coverage in the Lo-Boy lineup while retaining the acoustic profile that makes the series suitable for occupied-building cleaning.

Where the 21" Lo-Boy Fits in Large-Format Quiet Cleaning

The L-21E is the Lo-Boy model for large open floor areas — hospital atria, hotel lobbies, airport concourses, and university commons where a 19" or 20" machine would require more passes to cover the same square footage. In these environments, the noise reduction benefit of the Lo-Boy gearbox design matters most: the larger the open space, the further machine noise travels, and the more disruptive standard-weight floor machines are to occupants or visitors. At 105 lbs, the L-21E is 3 lbs lighter than the H-21E Hercules (108 lbs) — a marginal difference in cleaning performance but a meaningful one for operators who move the machine frequently between floors or load it onto freight elevators. Under-Apron Gearbox Design at 21" Scale

The Lo-Boy's gearbox location under the apron provides greater noise benefit at larger apron sizes because the apron housing creates a larger acoustic enclosure around the rotating gear assembly. At 21", the apron deck spans more surface area, giving the gearbox more physical shielding from the surrounding environment. This is why the L-21E is quieter in measured operation than a hypothetical standard-height machine with the same 21" apron: more apron area means more enclosure.
