Indoor Pool Dehumidifiers for Natatoriums, Hotels, and Spa Halls

What Does an Indoor Pool Dehumidifier Have to Survive?

Pool air carries chlorine, chloramines, and continuous high humidity together — the combination that strips coatings, pits coils, and corrodes painted housings on equipment designed for general commercial use. A dehumidifier specified for a pool room is built for that atmosphere from the start. That means pool-rated construction with the controls kept clear of the wet zone, or stainless steel housing throughout.

Pool-Room Units with Heat Recovery

The Ebac PD120-D removes 120 pints a day at 665 CFM and returns about 9,350 BTU of recovered heat to the room, which takes load off the pool heater rather than fighting it. The larger PD220-D removes 190 pints a day at the same airflow and recovers about 15,500 BTU, sized for commercial pool halls, hotel leisure suites, and school and club pools. Both run on 220V with R32 refrigerant and a remote touch control that sits outside the corrosive zone. The ducted PD120 (110 PPD, 261 CFM, 115V) covers smaller pool and spa rooms and can be ducted or run standalone.

Stainless Desiccant for Aggressive Chemistry and Tight RH

Where the atmosphere is harsher than a refrigerant machine should face, or the facility holds a tighter relative humidity band than swimmer comfort alone requires, the Bry-Air MiniPAC stainless steel desiccant line covers MP-100 through MP-2700. Stainless construction resists chlorinated air, and desiccant drying holds a setpoint without the capacity fade a refrigerant unit shows as air temperature drops. These are engineered, made-to-order units — plan a five-week lead time and request a quote rather than expecting a stock ship.

How Do You Size a Pool Dehumidifier?

Sizing follows pool surface area, water temperature, air temperature, and bather load, not room square footage. Water evaporates faster when the water is warmer than the air and when swimmers agitate the surface, so a busy therapy pool held at 88°F can outrun a lap pool twice its size. Work from the evaporation rate an aquatic design consultant calculates for the space, then match a machine that covers it at the room's design conditions — undersized equipment condenses water on cold structural surfaces, which does more damage than a humid deck ever will.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size dehumidifier does an indoor pool need?
Size from the pool's evaporation rate, which depends on surface area, water temperature, air temperature and bather load, not on room square footage. A warm, busy pool evaporates far more water than a cool lap pool of the same size. The Ebac PD120-D covers 120 pints a day and the PD220-D 190 pints a day; larger halls move to the Bry-Air MiniPAC desiccant range.
Why do pool rooms need a special dehumidifier?
Chlorine and chloramines in pool air attack coils, fasteners and painted housings on standard commercial dehumidifiers. Pool-room units are built for that atmosphere, with corrosion-resistant construction and controls positioned away from the wet zone. Stainless steel housings take it a step further for natatoriums with aggressive water chemistry.
Is heat recovery worth it on a pool dehumidifier?
In a heated pool room, yes. Dehumidification generates heat that a standard unit dumps outside the space. The Ebac PD120-D returns about 9,350 BTU and the PD220-D about 15,500 BTU into the room, which offsets what the pool heater and space heating would otherwise supply.
Desiccant or refrigerant for an indoor pool?
Refrigerant suits the warm, humid air of a typical pool hall and is the usual answer, which is why the purpose-built Ebac PD models are refrigerant. Desiccant earns its place when the space runs cooler, when the humidity target is tighter than swimmer comfort requires, or when the atmosphere is corrosive enough to justify stainless construction throughout.
