The DC-21-2000 is Mercury's largest high-speed burnisher, pairing a 21" apron with a 2000 RPM D/C rectified motor for maximum gloss output per pass. Compared to the DC-19-2000, the additional 2" of apron width covers more floor without adding speed — the two machines run the same motor and RPM, so the DC-21-2000 is the right choice when open floor space allows the larger footprint to work unobstructed. The front caster assembly controls pad pressure independently of machine weight, producing an even finish without the operator pushing down or pulling back on the handle.
DC-21-2000 Motor, Pad Pressure, and Chassis Design
Motor: 1.5 HP D/C rectified, 15 Amp — eliminates burnouts and startup torque issues
Operating wheels: 6" non-marking; transport wheels: 4" non-marking
Power cord: 50-ft. 14/3-gauge safety cord — plugs at handle base for easy service access
Machine weight: 84 lbs.
Where the DC-21-2000 Gets Used
The 21" size and 2000 RPM combination suits supermarket main aisles, airport terminals, hotel lobby corridors, and large-area VCT floors where production rate matters and tight navigation is not a constraint. At 2000 RPM, the friction generated between pad and floor creates sufficient heat to melt and re-spread finish polymers, producing a mirror gloss without chemical application. The large apron reduces the number of passes required on wide floors, cutting total burnish time compared to smaller machines on the same square footage.
Pro Application Details for the DC-21-2000
High-speed burnishers in the 2000 RPM range work with natural fiber pads, white pads, or tan pads — never black, green, or blue pads, which are too aggressive at this speed and damage finish. The front caster assembly on the DC-21-2000 is the key pad-pressure control mechanism: it floats the front of the machine on a small roller, keeping the pad flat against the floor regardless of minor surface irregularities. The interlock switch and non-conductive dual triggers prevent accidental starts and reduce electric shock risk on wet floors. Two YouTube videos covering operation and setup are available below.

Frequently Asked Questions
What pads should I use with the Mercury DC-21-2000 at 2000 RPM?
Use white, tan, or natural fiber burnishing pads at 2000 RPM. Never use black, green, or blue scrubbing pads at high speeds — those are too aggressive for burnishing and will remove finish rather than gloss it.
What is the difference between the DC-21-2000 and DC-19-2000?
Both models use the same 1.5 HP DC rectified motor running at 2000 RPM. The DC-21-2000 has a 21" apron; the DC-19-2000 has a 19" apron. Both weigh 84 lbs. The DC-21-2000 covers slightly more floor per pass in open, unobstructed areas.
What is the front caster assembly on the DC-21-2000 and why does it matter?
The front caster assembly is a small roller at the front of the machine that floats the pad holder independently of the chassis weight. This keeps the burnishing pad flat against the floor even on slightly uneven surfaces, producing an even gloss across the full pad width.
How does 2000 RPM compare to 1170 RPM for burnishing?
2000 RPM generates more friction heat, which melts and re-spreads floor finish polymers more aggressively, producing a brighter gloss in fewer passes. 1170 RPM produces less heat and a softer gloss — it is gentler on the finish and suits facilities that burnish frequently and do not need a wet-look shine.
What safety features does the DC-21-2000 have?
The DC-21-2000 includes a safety interlock switch that prevents the machine from running when the handle is released, and non-conductive dual triggers that reduce electric shock risk. The full-wrap non-marking bumpers protect walls and baseboards from contact damage.
How long is the power cord on the DC-21-2000?
The DC-21-2000 comes with a 50-foot 14/3-gauge safety power cord that connects to the motor at the handle base, allowing cord replacement without disassembling the machine housing.

Located in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, we acquired our Brio Air Filter in mid-late Spring of this year (2023) when pollen count was high and we were beginning to experience the effects of Poor Air Quality Index as a result of smoke particulates from fires in Canada that caused the air in much of Minnesota to become hazy and simply dirty.
It is so easy to share our experience with the Brio Air Filter given how quickly and efficiently it removed pollen, dust, and smoke particles from the environment inside our home. Two people in our home who suffer from pollen-related allergies during the spring immediately experienced easier breathing and elimination of symptoms within the house. With respect to smoke particulates from Canada drifting into our environment, EVERYONE in our home experienced directly improved breathing and smell of the air when entering from outside.
An additional piece of information to account for is that we have always employed high grade furnace filters in our home’s central HVAC system. With that high grade filtration in place both prior to and after acquiring a Brio home air filter, we all quickly agreed that deploying the Brio in our home made an easily noticeable positive difference in breathing inside our home. Additionally, those of us who clean our home have observed that dust builds up slower on our floors and furniture than before we deployed the Brio unit.
We did note that the Brio is not as quiet as a few other brands/models on the market that we have tried in our home but the efficiency and quality of the filtration, along with the air turnover rate it provides, allows us to locate the Brio unit in central rooms away from the bedrooms. Since we made that change there has been no noise-related effect on our sleep, while the unit maintains the same level of air cleanliness throughout our home.
A last key point to make is how easy the Brio unit is to maintain. The simplicity of the modular construction of the Brio unit makes it very quick and easy to keep the filtration sections clean. We have not yet reached a point of filter replacement but it is obvious to us that the replacement will take a matter of seconds and can be executed by anyone in our home, including our 10-year-old son.
It seems to help reduce my allergy issues. We're glad we bought it. The only problem I had was not seeing any cubic footage recommendations in the online description when purchasing the unit. Bedrooms vary widely in size!!
