Orion 920 pinless moisture meter measures moisture at a fixed depth of 0.25 in (6.4 mm) in thin wood stock, including hardwood and engineered flooring, veneers and trim. The sensor reads inside the wood without leaving pin holes, so you can check surfaces that will remain visible in the finished job. Its shallow measurement depth lets flooring installers, woodworkers and inspectors check this portion of the material.
Orion 920 Shallow Readings and Field Calibration
The Orion 920 has a single shallow measurement depth, adjustable species settings and a separate relative measurement mode. Wood moisture content readings range from 4.0% to 32.0%, varying slightly by species setting. Species settings span 0.20-1.0 SG.
- Check Thin Wood Without Pin Holes — The pinless sensor reads 0.25 in into wood without puncturing the surface of flooring, veneers, trim or woodworking stock.
- Recalibrate Where You Work — Use the paired On-Demand Calibrator to recalibrate the meter in the field without returning it to the factory.
- Keep a Reading Visible — The press-to-hold button locks the reading on screen so you can view it after taking the measurement.
- Compare Relative Moisture Readings — Relative mode uses a 0-100 scale for materials such as drywall, plywood, OSB and MDF. These readings are separate from wood moisture content readings.
- Read Without Temperature Corrections — No correction is needed for wood or ambient temperature.
- Use an Extension Accessory — The meter works with the Wagner Meter Reach Extender accessory.
Orion 920 Applications for Flooring, Woodworking and Inspection
The Orion 920 pinless moisture meter takes shallow readings in hardwood and engineered flooring during installation. Woodworkers can check veneers, trim and thin stock without marking an exposed face. For inspections of wood flooring or trim in offices, schools and residential properties, the press-to-hold function keeps the reading visible after measurement. Use relative mode for drywall, plywood, OSB or MDF. Its results are relative readings, not wood moisture content percentages.
