Ultra 250 Propane Steam Cleaner — 250 PSI Outdoor-Ready Chemical-Free Sanitation

The Ultra 250 Propane is Therma-Kleen's entry-level propane steam cleaner — compact at 95 lbs with a 23" × 18" × 32" footprint, but producing 250 PSI at 350°F from a 130,000 BTU/hr propane burner. Unlike the electric XL series which requires 3-phase power, the Ultra 250 runs on propane with a 115VAC / 6.8A or 220VAC / 3.5A pilot ignition circuit — operable in any facility or outdoor location with propane access and a standard outlet.

Ultra 250 Steam Temperature, PSI, and Propane Output

The propane burner is the key differentiator from the electric XL series — no 3-phase power infrastructure required.

  • 250 PSI output pressure (17 bar) — less than the Ultra 600 but sufficient for grease removal, tile cleaning, conveyor degreasing, and exterior surface sanitation
  • 350°F maximum steam temperature — 138°F above the thermal sanitization threshold; kills most pathogens without chemical sanitizers
  • 1.5 GPM water volume
  • 130,000 BTU/hr propane burner — rapid heating; EPA clean-burning rating for outdoor and semi-enclosed use
  • Electronic pilot ignition — reliable start without manual lighting; combined with flow switch, pressure relief valve, and high temperature limit switch for safe operation
  • 25 ft high-pressure steam hose included — standard reach; 100 ft hose available as optional accessory for large equipment or long-distance cleaning

Ultra 250 Applications and Environments

Outdoor facilities and locations without 3-phase electrical service are the primary Ultra 250 application — construction sites, agricultural equipment cleaning, food truck sanitation, and outdoor event equipment are all viable without permanent electrical infrastructure. Chemical-sensitive facilities like KOSHER kitchens, organic food processing areas, and pharmaceutical manufacturing spaces use it where chemical sanitizer residue creates compliance issues. The EPA clean-burn rating makes it usable in semi-enclosed areas like loading docks and covered outdoor equipment bays. For indoor applications in fully enclosed spaces, confirm adequate ventilation — propane combustion generates CO2 and requires airflow.

What PSI does the Ultra 250 produce?
The Ultra 250 produces 250 PSI (17 bar) at the output nozzle. For comparison, the Ultra 600 produces 600 PSI in the same chassis at the same temperature and flow rate. If your application requires penetration into grease-packed equipment or industrial-grade degreasing, the Ultra 600 provides 2.4× more pressure.
Does the Ultra 250 require 3-phase electrical service?
No. The Ultra 250 runs on propane with a 115VAC, 6.8-amp pilot ignition circuit (or 220VAC, 3.5A). Standard single-phase outlets are sufficient. The Therma-Steem XL1, XL2 and XL3 and the Ultra 250E and Ultra 600E require 3-phase power.
Can the Ultra 250 be used indoors?
The Ultra 250 requires adequate ventilation — propane combustion generates CO2 and requires airflow. It is rated for outdoor use and semi-enclosed areas with ventilation (loading docks, covered bays). For fully enclosed indoor environments without ventilation, the electric XL series is the appropriate choice.
Is a longer hose available for the Ultra 250?
Yes. The standard configuration includes a 25 ft high-pressure steam hose. A 100 ft steam hose is available as an optional accessory for large equipment, long-distance cleaning, or situations where moving the machine is impractical.
What safety features are built into the Ultra 250?
The Ultra 250 includes: electronic pilot ignition (no manual lighting), high temperature limit switch (shuts down if temperature exceeds safe threshold), pressure relief valve (releases if pressure exceeds rated limit), and flow switch (prevents heating without water flow to protect the coil).
