Mercury PVKIS / PVKISM: Replacement Dust Skirts for Hercules Sealed Sanders

The PVKIS and PVKISM are replacement dust skirts for Mercury Hercules H-17S and H-20S sealed sander floor machines. The PVKIS fits the 17" H-17S; the PVKISM fits the 20" H-20S. Both skirts contain sanding dust within the machine's dust collection path, reducing airborne particle dispersal during sanding operations on wood floors, concrete, and other surfaces requiring rotary sanding.

Why Dust Skirt Condition Affects Sanding Results

A sealed sander's dust control effectiveness depends on the skirt maintaining contact with the floor surface throughout the sanding pass. A worn skirt — one with compressed, frayed, or cracked material along the contact edge — allows air gaps that pull sanding dust outward rather than inward toward the collection system. The result is more airborne dust in the room, reduced dust collection efficiency, and contamination of surfaces adjacent to the sanding area. On wood floor refinishing jobs, dust contamination affects the finish application immediately following sanding. On concrete or terrazzo, airborne dust creates a health and visibility hazard in occupied or adjacent spaces. Replacing the skirt before it degrades to the gap-forming stage maintains the sander's sealed operation and reduces post-sanding cleanup requirements. Inspect the skirt after every 20–30 hours of sanding operation or when visible gaps appear between the skirt and the floor during use.

Selecting Between PVKIS and PVKISM

The only difference between the PVKIS and PVKISM is the machine size each fits. PVKIS is for the H-17S (17" apron); PVKISM is for the H-20S (20" apron). The two skirts are not interchangeable — installing the wrong size creates fit problems at the mounting points and does not seal correctly against the floor. Verify your sander model number before ordering: H-17S takes PVKIS; H-20S takes PVKISM. If both sander models are in your equipment fleet, order one of each to maintain a replacement skirt on hand for each machine.
