BD2KM Negative Air Machine — 3-Stage HEPA Containment in a Roto-Molded Cabinet

The Abatement BULLDOG BD2KM is the standard model of the BULLDOG negative air machine series. A 1 HP two-speed motor moves 2,000 CFM on high and 1,300 CFM on low through three stages of filtration ending in a 99.97% HEPA filter, all in a roto-molded polyethylene cabinet that weighs 117 lbs. It shares the same motor, airflow, filters, and cabinet as the BD2KMA Deluxe. The difference is filter monitoring: the BD2KM uses a visual "change filter" indicator lamp, while the Deluxe adds a differential pressure gauge and an audible alarm.

BD2KM Airflow, Filtration, and Cabinet

The two-speed motor covers the main job site cases: high for active fiber-generating work, low for quieter maintenance filtration between shifts.

  • 2,000 CFM high / 1,300 CFM low — switch between maximum airflow during active abatement and reduced airflow when noise needs to come down
  • 1 HP two-speed motor — thermal overload protection with auto-reset; draws 10 amps or less on a standard 120V/15A circuit
  • Three-stage filtration — a polypad and a 2" pleated prefilter protect the 24" x 24" x 6" 99.97% HEPA filter, so the HEPA lasts longer
  • Visual "change filter" indicator lamp — signals when service is due without a separate gauge
  • Roto-molded UL94HB polyethylene cabinet — resists dents and corrosion through repeated transport; 117 lbs for single-operator handling
  • Four 4" casters (2 fixed, 2 locking swivel) — roll the unit between rooms without a dolly
  • Optional 12" HEPA or 2" carbon filter — extend HEPA life or add odor and VOC capture

BD2KM Applications and Environments

Asbestos and lead abatement contractors run the BD2KM to hold negative pressure in active containment zones, switching to low speed during inspection periods. Mold remediation and water-damage restoration crews favor the roto-molded housing because it survives repeated loading into work vans without the dents that accumulate on steel cabinets. At 70 dBA on high, it is workable in healthcare construction and occupied-adjacent renovation where sound matters. The 117 lb cabinet and integrated casters let one technician reposition the unit across rooms and floors.

Negative Air Machine Compliance and Insurance Billing

Xactimate line item code for air scrubbers: AQRS. Independently tested and listed to UL and CSA electrical safety requirements. For projects that require documented negative pressure, pair the BD2KM with a manometer to log the pressure differential at inspection points.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the BD2KM and the BD2KMA Deluxe?
The BD2KM has a two-speed motor (high/low switch) while the BD2KMA Deluxe has full variable speed control. Both use the same roto-molded polyethylene housing and deliver 2,000 CFM at 99.97% HEPA filtration. Choose the BD2KM when two speed settings are sufficient for your project requirements; choose the BD2KMA Deluxe when you need to dial in specific CFM levels to meet a project's negative pressure differential specification.
What is the Xactimate code for the BD2KM?
The Xactimate line item code for negative air machines including the BD2KM is AQRS. Use this on insurance estimates for air scrubber usage during mold remediation, water damage restoration, and abatement projects.
Why choose roto-molded housing over steel for a negative air machine?
Roto-molded polyethylene resists dents from impacts that would deform 20-gauge galvanized steel, does not corrode in humid or chemically exposed environments, and holds up better through repeated loading and unloading cycles in work vans and trailers. For fleets that cycle equipment through multiple projects per week, the roto-molded housing typically results in lower maintenance costs and longer service life.
Can the BD2KM handle outdoor abatement projects?
The polyethylene housing resists corrosion and handles light moisture exposure better than steel cabinets. For outdoor use, protect the electrical connections and filter housing from direct rain or standing water. The housing itself will not rust or corrode from humidity exposure.
Does the BD2KM meet EPA NESHAP requirements for asbestos abatement?
Yes. The BD2KM's 99.97% HEPA filtration at 0.3 microns meets the filter efficiency required for negative-pressure enclosures under EPA NESHAP regulations for friable asbestos removal. Confirm that the unit is operated at the airflow rate required by the project specification to maintain the required negative pressure differential.
