Sizing a Warehouse-Grade Dehumidifier

Warehouse moisture control demands different equipment than office or residential dehumidification. The space is large, the air exchange is high (dock doors open multiple times per day), and ambient temperatures swing wider than conditioned commercial spaces. Standard sqft-based sizing rules underestimate capacity needs by 30–50% for warehouse applications. Plan instead by total air volume plus a margin for door cycles: a 5,000 sq ft warehouse with 16 ft ceilings has 80,000 cubic feet of air, requiring 700–1,000 pints per day baseline plus another 200–400 pints to compensate for dock door operations during business hours.

Refrigerant, LGR, and Desiccant by Application

Climate-controlled warehouses staying above 65°F run efficiently on standard refrigerant or LGR units in the 200–500 pint range. Warehouse-grade units typically require 230V single-phase or 208/230V three-phase power. Verify available power and circuit protection before specifying equipment — 3-phase service is standard at the panel in most commercial buildings but appropriate disconnects and breakers must be in place. Distributed installation provides better humidity uniformity, faster response to door-open events, and operational redundancy if one unit fails.
