Novatek HD-SH1 Single Scaling Hammer (Long Handle) for Heavy Coating and Rust Removal

The HD-SH1 long-handle scaling hammer drives one tungsten carbide cruciform piston at 2,500 blows per minute, fracturing material that needle scalers leave behind. Crews running structural steel repaints, marine deck recoats, and concrete prep use it on pack rust, laminar rust, thick mill scale, epoxy, and non-skid coatings. The 18-inch handle adds standoff distance, so operators reach deck plate, beam webs, and floor-level work without bending over the tool.

HD-SH1 Long Handle: Single-Piston Control with Extended Reach

The single-piston head concentrates the full air charge into one impact point, which gives the operator close control along edges, weld seams, and around fittings where a triple head is too wide. Choosing the long handle over the 9-inch short handle trades some maneuverability in tight quarters for reach and a more upright working posture on deck and slab surfaces. The screw-top cap opens for head and piston replacement without a press, and a nylon brush seal wipes the piston on every stroke to extend service life.

  • One tungsten carbide cruciform piston at 2,500 BPM concentrates impact for edge work, weld seams, and detail areas
  • 18-inch handle keeps the operator upright on deck and slab work and reaches floor-level surfaces without crouching
  • Runs on 6.5 CFM, so one mid-size compressor can supply the tool through a full shift
  • Single-piston layout is narrower than the triple head for work around bolts, flanges, and fittings
  • Screw-top cap allows field replacement of the head and piston without removing the tool from service for long
  • Nylon brush seal cleans the piston each stroke to reduce grit wear
  • Optional tungsten carbide bush hammer head converts the tool for concrete texturing and aggregate exposure

HD-SH1 Long Handle Applications and Environments

Structural steel: removes pack rust, laminar rust, and high-build coatings from beams, plate, and weldments. Marine: strips deck coatings, non-skid, and corrosion on hulls and superstructure. Concrete: rapid take-down of slab surfaces, plus texturing and aggregate exposure for bonding overlays when fitted with the bush hammer head.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the 1SH and 3SH scaling hammers?
The 1SH (PHS1HDL) drives one tungsten carbide piston at 2,500 BPM on 6.5 CFM, while the 3SH drives three pistons at 3 x 2,500 BPM on 14 CFM. The single head is narrower and easier to control on edges and detail work; the triple head clears flat area faster but needs more air and weighs more.
Why choose the long handle over the short handle?
The long handle measures 18 inches versus 9 inches on the short version. It adds reach and lets the operator work deck and slab surfaces from a more upright stance. The short handle is better in tight quarters and overhead work where a compact tool is needed.
How much air does the HD-SH1 require?
It consumes 6.5 CFM (186 lpm). A compressor that can deliver that volume continuously at the tool will run it through a full shift.
Is this hammer dust-controlled?
No. The HD-SH1 is the open version. For dust capture during coating or rust removal, use the shrouded VSE single scaling hammer (PHS1VSEHDL), which adds a vacuum shroud and a port for a connected dust collector.
Can the head be changed for concrete texturing?
Yes. The standard tungsten carbide cruciform head removes coatings and rust. An optional tungsten carbide bush hammer head fits the same tool for concrete texturing and aggregate exposure. The screw-top cap allows head replacement in the field.
