Tar-Trap filters are the first stage in the AllerAir AirMedic Pro 6, and they exist for one job: catching the sticky, tar-bearing particulate that smoke leaves behind before it reaches the HEPA and carbon. Tar does not brush off a pleated filter the way dust does. Once it reaches the HEPA it stays there, and the filter behind it is finished long before its normal life.
How often should Tar-Trap filters be changed?
AllerAir recommends every three to six months, depending on how much smoke the room produces. Anywhere combustion is routine — tobacco and cannabis rooms, cigar lounges, and industrial processes producing oily or resinous smoke. In a dust-only room the standard pre-filter is the correct part.
What the pack does

- Protects the expensive stages — the carbon bed behind it is the costliest part of the machine to replace

Service notes
AllerAir recommends replacing the Tar-Trap every three to six months depending on conditions, and a heavy-smoke room sits at the short end of that. Running one past its life transfers the tar to the filter it was protecting. The larger pack is the cheaper route per filter if the machine runs in a smoking environment, since the change interval is short by design.
