Abatement Technologies HEPA-AIRE H2KM — 2,000 CFM Negative Air Machine and Air Scrubber
The Abatement Technologies HEPA-AIRE H2KM is an industrial-grade, dual-speed negative air machine delivering 2,000 CFM on high and 1,300 CFM on low through a three-stage filtration system that terminates at a 99.97%-efficient HEPA filter. Built in 20-gauge galvanized steel and NRTL-certified (UL/CSA), it is the unit abatement contractors, restoration firms, and healthcare construction teams specify for asbestos, lead, and mold containment projects.
H2KM Filtration and Airflow Specifications
Airflow: 2,000 CFM (high) / 1,300 CFM (low) — two operating speeds to match containment zone size and air-change requirements.
Stage 1 filter: 1" coarse particulate polypad pre-filter — captures large debris and extends downstream filter life.
Stage 2 filter: 2" pleated particulate pre-filter — intermediate filtration that loads before the HEPA, reducing replacement frequency.
Stage 3: 6"-deep HEPA filter, 99.97% efficiency @ 0.3 microns — individually tested and certified at 2,000 CFM airflow; also accepts 12"-deep extended-life HEPA.
Exhaust: 12" duct collar (inlet and outlet) — connects to standard 12" flex duct for negative air exhausting or recirculation.
Cabinet: 20-gauge galvanized steel; dimensions 35¾" L × 26" W × 30¼" H — withstands abatement job-site conditions.
Weight: 124 lbs (standard filters); 151 lbs (with H2010M extended HEPA) — four casters (two locking swivel, two fixed) for repositioning.
Air Scrubber Mode vs. Negative Air Machine Mode
The H2KM operates in two distinct configurations. In recirculation (air scrubber) mode, contaminated room air enters through the inlet manifold, passes through all three filter stages, and exhausts back into the same space — continuously reducing airborne particle counts without ducting. This mode is appropriate for mold remediation and general construction dust control where negative pressure is not required by regulation. In negative air machine mode, the 12" exhaust collar connects to flex duct that routes filtered air outside the containment zone, creating negative pressure that prevents cross-contamination. Asbestos and lead abatement projects governed by EPA and OSHA standards typically require documented negative pressure, which the H2KM maintains with either its 2,000 or 1,300 CFM speed selected to match the containment volume and required air changes per hour.
ICRA Compliance, Xactimate Coding, and HEPA Filter Specs
In healthcare construction governed by ICRA (Infection Control Risk Assessment) protocols, the H2KM satisfies the requirement for HEPA-filtered negative air pressure at Class III and Class IV risk project sites. Its NRTL certification (UL/CSA) satisfies facility safety requirements without a variance. For insurance restoration billing, the H2KM air scrubber mode is billable under Xactimate line item AQRS (Air Quality — Rental, per day), a code recognized by major property insurers for covered remediation losses. The standard 6"-deep HEPA filter is individually tested and certified — certification documentation ships with the unit. Contractors requiring extended filter life between change-outs can specify the 12"-deep H2010M HEPA, which increases the unit's weight to 151 lbs but substantially reduces consumable costs on long-duration projects. The swing-out filter door provides tool-free access for filter inspection and replacement without repositioning the unit.

What is the airflow capacity of the Abatement H2KM?
The H2KM delivers 2,000 CFM on high speed and 1,300 CFM on low speed. The two-speed 1 HP motor lets operators select the appropriate airflow to meet the air changes per hour required by project specifications.
How many filter stages does the H2KM have?
Three stages: a 1" coarse particulate polypad pre-filter, a 2" pleated particulate pre-filter, and a 6"-deep HEPA filter individually tested and certified to 99.97% efficiency at 0.3 microns at 2,000 CFM airflow.
Can the H2KM run as an air scrubber and as a negative air machine?
Yes. In recirculation mode it filters and returns air to the same space without ducting. In negative air machine mode, the 12" exhaust collar connects to flex duct to exhaust filtered air outside the containment zone and maintain negative pressure — required by EPA and OSHA regulations for asbestos and lead abatement.
What duct size does the H2KM use?
Both the inlet manifold and exhaust collar accept standard 12" flex duct — the industry-standard diameter for abatement and restoration negative air applications.
Is the H2KM billable under Xactimate for insurance restoration jobs?
Yes. When operated in air scrubber mode on covered remediation losses, the H2KM is typically billed under Xactimate line item AQRS (Air Quality — Rental, per day), a code recognized by major property insurers.
What certifications does the Abatement H2KM carry?
The H2KM is NRTL-certified to UL and CSA standards. The HEPA filter is individually tested and certified at 2,000 CFM airflow, with certification documentation shipped with each unit.
How heavy is the H2KM and how is it moved?
The H2KM weighs 124 lbs with the standard 6"-deep HEPA filter, or 151 lbs with the optional H2010M 12"-deep HEPA. It rides on four casters — two locking 4" swivel and two 4" fixed — for repositioning on job sites.

Located in the Twin Cities in Minnesota, we acquired our Brio Air Filter in mid-late Spring of this year (2023) when pollen count was high and we were beginning to experience the effects of Poor Air Quality Index as a result of smoke particulates from fires in Canada that caused the air in much of Minnesota to become hazy and simply dirty.
It is so easy to share our experience with the Brio Air Filter given how quickly and efficiently it removed pollen, dust, and smoke particles from the environment inside our home. Two people in our home who suffer from pollen-related allergies during the spring immediately experienced easier breathing and elimination of symptoms within the house. With respect to smoke particulates from Canada drifting into our environment, EVERYONE in our home experienced directly improved breathing and smell of the air when entering from outside.
An additional piece of information to account for is that we have always employed high grade furnace filters in our home’s central HVAC system. With that high grade filtration in place both prior to and after acquiring a Brio home air filter, we all quickly agreed that deploying the Brio in our home made an easily noticeable positive difference in breathing inside our home. Additionally, those of us who clean our home have observed that dust builds up slower on our floors and furniture than before we deployed the Brio unit.
We did note that the Brio is not as quiet as a few other brands/models on the market that we have tried in our home but the efficiency and quality of the filtration, along with the air turnover rate it provides, allows us to locate the Brio unit in central rooms away from the bedrooms. Since we made that change there has been no noise-related effect on our sleep, while the unit maintains the same level of air cleanliness throughout our home.
A last key point to make is how easy the Brio unit is to maintain. The simplicity of the modular construction of the Brio unit makes it very quick and easy to keep the filtration sections clean. We have not yet reached a point of filter replacement but it is obvious to us that the replacement will take a matter of seconds and can be executed by anyone in our home, including our 10-year-old son.
It seems to help reduce my allergy issues. We're glad we bought it. The only problem I had was not seeing any cubic footage recommendations in the online description when purchasing the unit. Bedrooms vary widely in size!!
